The Cure spent years being the band you put on when things were dark, which is exactly why this one lands. Robert Smith wrote something so openly, unashamedly cheerful that he became convinced he'd stolen the chords from somewhere, and rang around playing it to people to make sure he hadn't.

Listen to how it walks through the week. Monday to Thursday are grey, blue and falling apart, and then the whole thing lifts on Friday. Three and a half minutes of guitars that jangle like they're grinning, and it never pretends to be deeper than it is. That's the point. Smith himself called it a naïve, happy pop song.
